Every generation discovers new arenas in which to test its imagination, discipline and courage. For today's young people, one of those arenas is esports.

The Bhutan Esports Association was founded on the conviction that gaming is not merely a form of entertainment. At its best, it is a space for competition, community and creative expression. It brings together technology, storytelling, strategy, teamwork and human ingenuity. Our responsibility is to ensure that this powerful medium becomes a force for the growth and empowerment of Bhutanese youth.

BESA is guided by the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, who has consistently championed the transformative power of sport.

In this spirit, BESA has adopted a strategy we call "Gamers to Creators." We want Bhutanese youth not only to play the games created by others, but also to acquire the skills, confidence and opportunities to create worlds of their own.

The successful Bhutan Esports National Championship 2026 demonstrated the extraordinary potential of this movement. With an unprecedented prize pool of Nu. 1 million, the championship attracted more than 1,000 competitive gamers from across the country.

The championship also affirmed an important truth: Bhutan's young people are ready. They are ready to compete, to learn, to collaborate and to lead. Our task is to build the institutions, platforms and pathways that will allow their abilities to flourish.

This mission is closely aligned with the Royal Government of Bhutan's 10X vision, which calls upon us to pursue transformation with greater imagination, speed and ambition.

It also resonates deeply with His Majesty The King's vision for the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a vision for a future in which economic progress, innovation and human wellbeing are pursued together.

BESA seeks to build an esports ecosystem that reflects these values: competitive but inclusive, innovative but grounded, global in outlook yet distinctly Bhutanese in spirit.

The journey ahead extends far beyond tournaments. It is a journey towards education, professionalisation, content creation, game development, international representation and new forms of enterprise.
